Mongolia is home to over 400 species of birds. Mongolia has a rich composition of bird species due to the migration routes from Pacific and Indian Oceans to the Mediterranean Sea and to the Arctic Ocean and northern tundra. The best seasons to visit are the migration times.
In the Gobi you may see the desert warbler, houbara bustard, saxaul sparrow, sand goose, finch, cinereous vulture and many more. In the steppes: the gray demoiselle crane, a variety of hoopoes, odd eagle, vulture, upland buzzard, steppe eagle, variety of falcons including saker falcon, black kite and variety of owls and hawks. In the mountains: ptarmigan, finch, woodpecker, owl, Lammergeyers, Altai snowcock.
In the Lakes: Dalmtian pelicans, hooded cranes, relict gulls and bar headed geese.
Among most popular places for above-mentioned birds in Mongolia are Ugii Lake, Orkhon waterfall and Hugnu khan National park. These areas are the best spot to see forest, steppe and water birds.
Day 1: Ulaanbaatar
After arriving in Ulaanbaatar, You'll be greeted at the airport and escorted to your hotel. City sightseeing tour including a visit Gandan Monastery with its huge gold plated Buddha, a symbol of Mongolian national pride and cultural revival. See the monks chanting, spin some prayer wheels and view the intricately embroidered thanks. In the afternoon visit to the bird exhibitions hall at the Natural History Museum. Overnight in the hotel. Day 2: Gun Galuut National Reserve and Terelj National Park
After breakfast, drive to Gun-Galuut Nature Reserve. We will see bird watching at the lakes Ayaga & Ikh-Gun. Wetland birds including White Naped Crane, Hooded Cranes, Whooper Swan, Swan Goose, and Black Stork. Then visit to the Terelj national park forest birds watching and exploring, taking pictures, enjoy wildlife, flora & fauna of the area. Overnight in the tourist camp. (B/L/D)
Day 3: Hustai national park and Bird watching
After breakfast, drive to Hustai National Park and see the Takhi, the Asian wild horse and steppe birds. Enjoy hiking and photographing the charming landscape and bird watching. Visit Takhi's small museum and overnight in tourist camp.(B/L/D)
Day-4 Drive to Bayan Lake, Tsagaan Lake, Zegst Lake, monument of Tsogt taij
After breakfast, today we will drive to Tsagaan Lake, Zegst Lake, Bayan Lake, - a great spot for water birds watching. Visit Tsogt Taij, the oldest monument, built in 1601. Overnight in tourist camp. (B/L/D)
Day 5: Drive to Ugii Lake and visit a nomad family
After breakfast, we will drive to Ugii Lake - a great spot for water bird watching. You have opportunity to walk to the lakeside & mountain for exploring, taking pictures, enjoy wildlife, flora & fauna of the lake area. Then visit a local nomad family and horseback trail. Overnight tourist camp. (B/L/D)
Day 6: Erdene-Zuu, the oldest Monastery
Today make a trip to the Orkhon Waterfall situated in Hangai Mountain National park. Water falls from height of 20 meters and the width of the stream at the point where forms the spectacular waterfall is 10 meters. It is great opportunity to bird watching to the area along the Orkhon river. On the way we visit the site of Karakorum, which was the capital city of Great Mongol Empire founded in the 13th century by Genghis Khan. You will also visit the oldest Monastery Erdene-Zuu built in 1586, with 108 stupas. Overnight in tourist camp. (B/L/D)
Day 7: Bird watching and visit the Tuvkhun monastery
Today is yours to explore and discover the Orkhon waterfall - a great spot for bird watching and fishing. We will also visit the Tuvkhun monastery. On the peak of the Undur shireet with 2312 meters high, this locates in boundary of Arkhangai and Uvurkhangai aimags. It was erected by Zanabazar (1st Bogd Gegeen in Mongolia) in 1654 on the smooth grand of the south slope of steep rock with 20 meters high has 14 small temples. He created his famous script "Soyombo" there in 1680. Overnight in tourist camp.(B/L/D)
Day 8: Bird watching and visit the Sangiin Dalai Lake
Depart overland to Hugnu khan National park which is a unique area combining of forest and sand dunes. The area is the best spot to see forest and steppe birds. Overnight in tourist camp. (B/L/D)
Day 9: Drive back to Ulaanbaatar and city tour options
Early morning, drive to Huduu Lake - a great spot to see water birds watching. After the lunch drive back from the camp to Ulaanbaatar. You may choose an optional city tour where you will be taken to souvenir and cashmere shops before enjoying an evening concert of National Folklore. Overnight in the hotel.(B/L/D)
Day-10 Departure Mongolia.You will be transferred from your hotel to the airport. (B)

Khustai Nuruu Protected area
This National Park is a fine example of the wide river valleys separated by hilly terrain that characterize forest steppe. There are dozens of wild animals such as wolves, deer, and Przewalski horse which was reintroduced in 1990 with a cooperation of the Foundation Reserves for the Przewalski Horse and the support of Dutch Government. Since that time Takhi was lived in the zoo parks around the world. Year 1992 was a new stage of Wild horse’s life and its history. Khustai national park was established in order to host reintroduction project of Takhi in 1993.
